Personal Program Goal
When I started my formal education, I had always planned on completing a master degree program. I have seen in a few books and magazines, past and present, were the self-improvement professionals encouraged us to write down our goals and objectives (Foy, 2001; Miller 2000). I tried this once early in life; one of the goals I wrote down was to accomplish achieving a bachelor's degree. I achieved that goal by obtaining my bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Maryland University College. My goal of obtaining a Master degree I never wrote down but I am here working on completing my program. The skills and knowledge that I learn and refine by participating in the program will be useful in my job today and my plans for the future. I do not believe that the degree will have an immediate impact on my short term career objectives, but I do expect that a master’s degree will be significant in my long term plans of someday late in life moving into the education profession. I have never again written down my goals but I believe that early on it did help me. Completing the program is more of a personal goal for me than any professional need. I agree with Foy (2001) that it is important in life to set goals and strive for personal improvement.
