Where did you
create this artifact? The “Mobile Payment White Paper” artifacts were created during
courses ICT 702 Seminar in Information.
I created this artifact to demonstrate my ability to analyze a current
issue and trend in ICT. This paper afforded me the opportunity to analyze the
financial risk of ICT early adoption and consider the impact on the
organization if we choose to wait for new ICT to mature and become more
accepted throughout our industry and customer base. What I Learned,
How did you learn this? I learned that diffusion is when the technology reaches the mass-market.
When the product or service reaches the diffusion stage it is sometimes
considered a commodity and typically brings a lower profit margin. In the
past, many companies did not want to continue to market a product once it
reached the diffusion stage. Now with the high cost of development, many
organizations have decided to continue to market products when they reach the
diffusion stage as they realize that the lower profit margins can be offset
by high-volume sales and lower cost of production. Why this is
important: Long-term success of an organization requires long-term
thinking. Short-term new technology
high profit margins are not sustainable.
My first personal computer I purchased for $1,300. This year I purchased a very good system for
$300. The PC market is doing well
because the industry realized that the diffusion of the technology would lead
to enduring success when other opportunities for revenue in the form of
enhancements evolved. How can you apply?
I will continue to embrace the diffusion of technology in our
industry and not make business decision solely on short-term profit revenue
but look for long-term sustainable revenue.
As we look for new and enhanced ICT opportunities, I will consider if
the diffusion level of the technology will have any impact on our adoption
decision. What challenges
& obstacles did you overcome? One of the challenges I discovered in writing a white paper was knowing when to end my research efforts and start the
actual process of analysis and writing.
When researching a current topic there can be an abundant amount of
continuous constant information but in order to meet and manage due dates and
time lines I had to make key decisions on the volume of research needed to
support the paper and effectively manage my time to deliver a quality
product. |
